(English below) ‘Beauty Will Save the World’는 대구 지역이 코로나19 특별재난지역으로 선포되었던 2020년 초에 코로나로 인해 고통받는 세상을 돕기 위하여 리알티 아트스페이스에서 기획된 장기 예술 기부 프로젝트입니다. 그동안 15명의 시각예술 작가들이 리알티에 작품을 기부하였고, 프로젝트 기획자 김신혜가 참여 작가들을 만난 후 완성한 에세이 15편이 온라인으로 소개되었습니다.
이번 전시를 통하여 기부를 위한 작품 판매가 이루어질 예정이며 판매금 전액은 전시 종료 후 대구의 이주민과 난민을 돕는 비영리 단체(대구 가톨릭 회관)에 기부될 예정입니다. 작품 판매는 한 점당 10만 원이며 전시 관람객 1인당 희망 작품 구매 추첨권 1매를 제공하여 전시 종료일 추첨을 통해 구매자를 선정하는 방식으로 이루어집니다. 활발히 활동 중인 작가들의 작품이 10만 원인 이유에 대하여 기획자 김신혜는 때로는 예술의 가치를 돈으로 매길 수조차 없는 것이 예술만이 가진 고유한 매력이며 음악처럼 미술도 더욱더 많은 사람들의 관심과 사랑으로 향유되기를 바라는 마음에서였다고 전했습니다.
또한, 2년간의 프로젝트를 통해 소개된 참여 작가, 작품의 이미지와 글을 담은 에세이집을 출판하기 위하여 텀블벅 펀딩을 진행 중에 있으며 펀딩에 성공할 경우 전시장에서 판매되는 에세이집의 판매 수익금은 해마다 소외된 아동들에게 크리스마스 선물을 전달하는 비영리 단체(Daegu’s Time to Give)에 전달될 예정입니다.
위기의 상황 속에서 발휘할 수 있는 예술과 예술가들의 역할, 아름다움으로 역경을 이겨내고자 하는 그들의 소통 방식에 대하여 이야기하는 이번 전시를 통해 2021년의 따뜻한 12월을 많은 분들이 함께 하기를 바랍니다.
‘Beauty Will Save the World’ is a long-term art donation project created by Realti Art Space to help the world suffering from COVID-19 in early 2020, when Daegu was declared a special disaster area for COVID-19. 15 visual artists have donated their artwork to Realti, and 15 essays completed by the project curator Kim Shinhae after meeting the participating artists have been introduced online.
The sales of the donated artwork will be at the exhibition and all sales will be donated to a non-profit organization (Daegu Catholic Center) that helps migrants and refugees in Daegu after the exhibition. The sale of each artwork is 100,000 won and visitors will be provided a piece of paper to select one artwork to purchase and the final buyer will be drawn in a raffle at the end of the exhibition. As for the reason why the work of active artists is only 100,000won, the curator Shinhae said that the beauty of art is something that cannot be valued as money at all and she hopes art will be enjoyed with the interest and love of more people as much as music.
In addition, Tumblbug fundraising is going to publish an essay book containing images and writings about the participating artists and their work that were introduced throughout the two-year project. If the fundraising is successful, the sale of the essay books sold at the exhibition will go to a non-profit organization (Daegu’s Time to Give), which delivers Christmas gifts to underprivileged children every year.
We hope that many people will join us this December at 2021 through this exhibition, which talks about art, the role of artists and their communication methods to overcome hard times with beauty that could help us overcome this crisis.
